NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!
The Iggy Sumnik Memorial and Retrospective, themed “Impact,” will take place from May 2 to May 16, 2025, Room 218 in the Community Engagement Center (CEC) on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The event honors the legacy of Iggy Sumnik, featuring an art exhibit and sale curated in collaboration with WhyArts and the Sumnik family.
On May 1, an opening reception will be held from 6pm - 8pm to welcome attendees and celebrate Sumnik’s contributions to the arts.
The exhibit will include art displayed on elevated units and covered tables, with logistics and curation aligned with the family’s vision. Visuals, videos, and archived images will be shown on the CEC lobby Jumbotron and AV equipment to complement the art display.
The event will feature a free, hands-on art experience open to the public, including youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and older adults. This inclusive community event will be widely publicized through WhyArts’ and the CEC’s marketing channels, fostering engagement and participation.
Accessibility and thoughtful design are central to the event, ensuring displays are visually appealing and accommodating to all visitors.
We are looking for volunteers to host the exhibit Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm.
