Thank you for your interest in our study. Please take some time to read through our aims before signing up.Study purposeFaces, voices, and mannerisms play key roles in many areas of behaviour research, from understanding social and sensory perceptions, to cognition and machine learning. We are putting together a Singapore-based face, voice, and behaviour database which will help researchers conduct more accurate and locally relevant studies. This database will also benefit international researchers studying cross-cultural perceptions of faces, voices, and behaviours.
What will be done if I take part in this research study? This study will take place at our NUS Psychology Lab (Block AS5, 04-22).We will be asking you to provide us background information (e.g., your age, race) before taking photographs of you in various facial expressions (e.g., neutral, smiling) from different angles (e.g., front view, side profile). You will be voice recorded saying several phrases. Parts of the voice and photography will also be video recorded.
How will my photographs and recordings be used? The photographs and recordings will be stored in perpetuity, and used as study stimuli for research and education purposes in the current and other labs, both locally and internationally. For instance, your face, voice, or video recording may be paired with fictitious information for experiments. With your permission, these data may be shared at academic presentations or research conferences – you will be able to choose the extent to which your photographs and recordings can be used for research at the end of recording session.
Duration & compensationWe will take 30 to 45 min (max one hour) and you will be compensated $10 for your time.
