Horse Crossing Farm, LLC:  Tiny Trots Registration Form

Tiny Trots are equine exposure sessions for ages 18 months to 5 years old. Children must be able to sit up on a saddle unassisted.

Tiny Trot sessions are offered on a weekly or bi-weekly basis on weekdays. Week A does not always fall on the first week of the month. The Week A and Week B slots continue indefinitely from month to month. If you sign up for a bi-weekly slot, your slot will be every 2 weeks from the initial start date no matter where that week falls in the month or how many weeks are in the month.

If you would like the weekly option, please sign up for both of the Week A and Week B slots. Each lesson is $25. Invoices are paid up front for the entire month of sessions. A month is $50-$75 for biweekly and $100-$125 for weekly (depending on the number of weeks in a given month). Invoices will be sent out 5-7 days in advance and are due on the 1st of each month. A late fee of $5 per day will be incurred for unpaid invoices. Monthly invoices are non-refundable.

We must have a completed waiver for *each* visitor who comes to our farm. This includes not only the Tiny Trot participant, but any family member and/or friend who may accompany them.

In the case of inclement weather, the farm associate will reach out to parents regarding make-up date options. If there are no make-up options by the time the month ends, clients can receive a refund for the session(s) cancelled due to weather.

Please arrive on time for your session. If a session participant does not arrive by 10 minutes into their session time, the farm associate reserves the right to cancel the session without a make-up option. We are only able to make up lessons if they are canceled due to weather or a conflict with our instructor’s schedule. We are not able to makeup or refund lessons for any other reason. If there is an emergency situation such as a death in the family, etc., parents may reach out to Brittany on a case-by-case basis. Similar to other lesson and childcare programs, we will not be able to make up lessons due to sickness or schedule conflicts. Each student’s slot is their reserved lesson time each month. The invoice total will remain the same whether or not a session participant plans to attend on their assigned date.

Please remain in your vehicle until 5 minutes before your session time. Visitors may not walk around the farm alone before, during or after your session time. This rule applies to friends and family members of the participant as well.

Session participants are required to wear a helmet for the entire time they are mounted on a horse. Participants are welcome to wear their own bicycle helmets if they wish.

We use our miniature horse, our miniature mule, our pony and sometimes a standard-sized horse for these sessions. This decision is based on the size of the rider, age of the rider, and the previous experience of the rider. Please trust the instructor to choose the best horse/pony for your child.

If a parent decides that their child is no longer going to be in the Tiny Trot program in future months, the parent must inform the farm owner at least 2 weeks before the next month. For example, if a March participant will no longer be in the program in April, the farm owner must be notified 2 weeks before April 1. Farm staff plans months in advance, and hay/feed is purchased with session invoice money. Therefore, it is crucial that we know as soon as possible if you are no longer going be in this program. Thank you for your understanding!

I understand and acknowledge that all equine activity has inherent risk due to its nature. I understand and acknowledge that falling off is part of learning to ride.

HCF Protocol for Falling

At HCF we prioritize safety, but falling is an inherent part of riding. While we take every measure to properly educate your child, it's important to understand that when we put your child on a horse, there is always the possibility of a fall.

In most cases, falls result in nothing more than a few bruises and a dusty backside. However, we do proceed with the following protocol to assess for any serious injuries:

*Although unlikely, if the situation is obviously extremely serious we will avoid moving the child or removing any gear. We will then leave it up to medical professionals in these situations.*

1. Ensure there are no immediate hazards before addressing the rider.

2. Instruct the rider to remain where they are and to avoid standing immediately.

3. Calmly guide the rider to take deep breaths in order to regulate their breathing. (Falls often knock the wind out or a rider, which can be frightening.)

4. Talk to the rider, looking for the following that may be signs of a concussion: a. Slurred speech

b. Confusion or disorientation

c. Dazed or incoherent responses

5. Ask the rider what hurts. If needed, assess the area for signs of severe injury or significant lack of mobility.

We cannot do much besides provide a generic assessment, so if further care is required the rest should be left up to medical professionals.

We ask that parents let us assess their child after they fall, but if they desire their child to be immediately released into their care we will comply.

After Falling

Whenever possible, we encourage students to get back on their horse once we've confirmed that they are uninjured. Even if it's just a short, slow walk on a lead, this helps prevent a lasting fear of riding. Every true equestrian falls—what truly matters is getting back up and continuing to ride. While it can be scary, each fall is a learning experience that shapes stronger, more resilient riders!

The risk of injury from the activities involved in this program is significant including the potential for paralysis and death and while
particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce risk, the risk of serious injury does exist.
I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, and assume full responsibility for my voluntary participation.
I willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and conditions for participation. If, however, I observe any unusual significant hazard during my presence or participation, I will remove myself from participation and bring such to the attention of the nearest staff member immediately.

Additional Information
For those who have not been to our property before, the address is 210 Railroad Ave Lexington 29072. When you arrive, you will see a brick house with a circle driveway and a red barn mailbox. Most visitors think they are at the wrong address, but it's correct! The farm is behind the house and you won't see it from the road. 😃 There are signs indicating where to park. Pull into the wooded mulch lot and park in front of the fence to the far right. Walk to the right of the white garage and through the open gate to the back. Please remain in your vehicle until 5 mins before your lesson time begins, as visitors may not walk around the farm alone due to insurance purposes. Your instructor will be ready to meet you back by the horses! Please make sure you have completed the online waiver for each person coming to the farm, not just the lesson student. This includes children, adults, participants, spectators, guardians, etc. Anyone who visits the farm property for any reason must have a waiver on file. If someone different is going to be dropping off, attending or picking up your child from lessons, they must complete a waiver. Farm staff reserves the right to check for waivers at any time. If a visitor is found to not have a waiver on file, they will be asked to leave. Entering the farm gate without a waiver on file is considered trespassing. Thank you for your understanding!
Your acceptance and execution of this agreement shall be made by electronic acknowledgement, and you agree that your electronic acknowledgment of this Agreement shall be considered the equivalent of your written signature.
